Travelling with Theoduff

Well we are in Singapore now, accompanied everywhere by Olga, my trusty blue Olga Berg handbag! She is such a treasure and has been all over the place with us, UK, NZ, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Chennai and now back to India again.  She holds so much and doesn't complain when you stuff cameras, shopping, all manner of things inside.  I thought about retiring her once but couldnt bring myself to do it, the new bags just dont compare.

When i figure out how to put pictures up, will share some we have taken so far.  Going on the cable car to Sentosa today.

Well it has been a while since Singapore and internet has been had to come by...

Singaore was a good introduction to starting to relax - everything is very clean and bright, new buildings everywhere with innovative designs, integrating solar panels and roof gardens to make the most of the sunshine.  Cars are so expensive to purhase  in Singapore that most people use public transport which is clean, prompt and driven by an electronic driver!  Robertson Quay where we stayed was alive with restaurants after dark frequented by ex-pat men and tourists enjoying happy hour and soccer on the tv.

Our hotel room was just room for a double bed and a tv with an even smaller or should I say compact bathroom... makes you rethink the whole space thing and how much stuff we have to fill our vast Australian spaces...

What struck us most was how dry Singapore was, Usually dripping with humidity it hadn't rained more than two days in February - the driest Feb since 1860.  All to do with the Year of the Fire Horse apparently so we should expect less rain, more fires etc etc.

Then we came to Mumbai, a complete contrast with a still building empty airport with no atms working and a one hour taxi ride - introduction to Mumbai traffic at its best, four lanes on a two lane road, beeping, sudden swerves to avoid ongoing roadworks and then an empty toll road.
Locals dont use it as it is too expensive.

When I can get on my ipad I will upload photos..... and more about Mumbai.

We came to ShiksanGram Shelter for homeless Children on Monday and it is such a wake up call for what we need in life and a delight to spend time with such curious kids.  They work very hard and have made us fell very welcome.  Tony is just walking to school now with the next shift - they go at different times throughout the day and then come home to study more, have Kung Foo martial arts raining, dance class then dinner at 8pm ready to get up at 5.30am the next day.  No TV's here!

We are well and having a wonderful time. Back in touch soon.
